A municipality was planning to overhaul their caustic solution system in less than five years. Their current structures included two fiberglass chlorine scrubbers that were about 10 years old. These vessels were both 30’ in diameter and 27’ tall and had considerable corrosive attack to the liner and structural portions of the fiberglass laminate. The customer did not want to replace these tanks since they would soon be obsolete considering the scheduled renovation.
After a thorough Diamond Services inspection these tanks were assessed to fail within a year. The customer chose to postpone any needed maintenance and, as predicted, one of the vessels experienced an emergency failure after 14 months.
After the tank malfunction, the Diamond Services crew stepped in and completed structural and liner repair on both vessels with minimal impact to the customer and their operations.
This on-site turnaround project, which took only six weeks to complete, included:
- Internal and External Scaffolding Erection
- Media Blasting and Grinding
- Structural Lamination and Relining
- Sanding and Coating of the Exterior Surface
